  • A warm day...there have been a few.

Plenty of snow on our trail last Sat, and I wore sandals!!

Iain likes to pick up the BIG rocks.

    Happy nature lovers.

Playing with some of the wheeled toys, including the new Tonka fire truck!  Notice its position on top of the 'tunnel'.

Pushing his 'mower' on our front walkway.

He's recently become enamored with all the large yellow vehicles....construction trucks and buses!

  • I am excited that I will be performing next Sunday, April 27 with these musicians in Bozeman.  Amazingly enough, I already get to play chamber music on a concert with viola and clarinet and a singer who is not pictured.  The concert is at St. James, an episcopal church with great acoustics.  What's really exciting is that these symphony players are VERY happy to have me with them.  I think I will have many chances to make music here.  We'll be playing from Bruch's Eight Pieces for viola, clarinet and piano, then some beautiful folk pieces for viola by Vaughan Williams and a light classical viola sonata.  Very fun! Chris took this picture today to be published in the newspaper.

  • Well, we've been here nearly a month now.  Iain is keeping us busy, of course.  I've been planning to post an update here for awhile.  It's a daunting task to attempt to catch up on a whole month.  I'll just post a few pictures from the past few days to start.

Iain was thrilled to be reunited with 'doggy' after he was recently cleaned and carried him around in his mouth like this for 15-20 minutes.
He is getting quite good with his hands.
I love this story about him.  Yesterday, we were about to go upstairs and he was going to bring some books along.  He apparently wanted to bring three because he kept putting one down and picking the other up, then putting it down and picking the other one up, etc.  Finally, he put all three on the ground and stacked them up, and carried them over to the stairs.  I clapped for his accomplishment.  It was cool that he figured that out!

Sunday, we went to the Gallatin River and walked a mile upstream. I  actually  wore short sleeves and was hot.  Then Tuesday morning our house looked like this.  I just laughed.

Inside it's warm and cozy though.  The kitchen......

    The living room......

My view out the kitchen window.  I'm thankful that house is red and not tan like most of the other ones in this neighborhood!

    OK, more soon.

  • Bozeman at last

So, here we are in our new house.  It's pretty funny to see us sitting on the floor in our big living room against opposite walls.  We have no furniture until Wed or Thurs.  I bought an air mattress and several things this evening, so we can get by until then.  Tomorrow we'll get the car registered and buy a washer and dryer.  I can't tell you how good it feels to be done traveling.  We really loved seeing everything and visiting, but the hotels and eating out and Iain being car seat bound was all getting old.
Let me just say, if we ever think we're about to dry up here, we'll just be in Seattle in a day and soak up the wet weather there.  It really struck us how different it was.  It kind of reminded me of Amsterdam.  I think we really appreciate places where a 'convergence of diversity' exists.  Pikes Public Market by the waterfront is the oldest working farmers' market in the country.  All the foods and vendors and music and activity....so stimulating.

I kind of laughed at myself when I got so excited about something I saw there.  Prior to yesterday, my only perspective on Seattle had been the large photos on the wall of the Goleta Borders which serves Seattle's Best Coffee.  So we looked toward the water and I saw this sign.  It seemed familiar, then I realized it must be in the wall picture at Borders in Goleta!  I was very excited to actually put that together in my mind.  Little things like that really please me!

    Cool sign!

    He was done!

30 minutes outside of Seattle there was 6-8 feet of snow along the side of the highway.

Hopefully, this is the look we'll be getting from him over the coming days.

  • From Tukwila, WA....about 10 miles south of Seattle.  We were able to visit Ben and Mary yesterday.  They live on a peninsula about an hour and a half west of Seattle, by ferry.  It's called Quilcene.  Then we traveled across the Puget Sound from Kingston to Edmonds and drove through Seattle.  It's really beautiful here.  Green trees and nice humid air.  It just feels like the 'weather is alive' to quote Chris.

Tonight we should be in Coeur d'Alene, ID and then into Bozeman tomorrow.  We'll be glad to arrive.

On the ferry...very interesting experience!  Fun, though!
